A three-day workshop with poetry and movement

Somatic Poetry invites you to explore the meeting point between words and the body – between what we feel, think, and express. Over three sessions, we weave together poetry and movement to explore themes of identity, community, and belonging.
The workshop is open to adults of all ages, and no previous experience in writing or dance is needed. What matters most is your curiosity and willingness to explore. Participation is free of charge—all you need is your curiosity and willingness to explore.
Together, we will create a safe and welcoming space where participants can express both personal and collective emotions through poetry and movement. We begin by writing our own poems – drawing inspiration from lived experiences, dreams, fears, and hopes. From there, we let the poems move through the body, discovering how movement can give voice to what words alone cannot express.
Step by step, you’ll be introduced to simple choreographic and compositional tools that help you discover your own unique movement language. We’ll work with different parts of the body, the space around and between us, and explore rhythm, dynamics, and the quality of movement.
Through improvisation, imagination, and sensory awareness, participants will create small but meaningful movement sequences inspired by their texts – their own poetry dances.
The process emphasizes play, curiosity, and deep listening – to oneself and to others. Through this journey, we hope to show how poetry and dance can become powerful tools for reflection, storytelling, and connection.
The workshop is facilitated by dance artist Rumiko Otsuka and poet Jennifer McCormack, who together create an atmosphere of care, creativity, and courage.
